"Heaven on earth — where lakes mirror snow-capped peaks"
Kashmir has been called 'Paradise on Earth' by emperors and poets for centuries — and standing at the edge of Dal Lake at dawn, with the Himalayas reflected in its still waters, you will understand why. This 7-day journey through the Kashmir Valley takes you through Srinagar's famous floating gardens and Mughal parks, the alpine meadows of Gulmarg carpeted with wildflowers, the valley of Pahalgam where the Lidder River rushes through pine forests, and the glacial landscapes of Sonmarg at the edge of the Zojila Pass. Kashmir is a feast for all the senses — profoundly beautiful and deeply peaceful.
Arrive at Srinagar Airport and transfer directly to your houseboat on Dal Lake — a uniquely Kashmiri experience. These ornate wooden boats, handed down through generations, are floating homes of extraordinary craftsmanship. Settle in and take your first Shikara ride across the lake as the mountains glow in the afternoon light. Evening on the houseboat. Overnight on Dal Lake Houseboat.
Morning Shikara ride through the floating vegetable markets — a unique Kashmir tradition where farmers bring produce to market by boat. Visit Shalimar Bagh, built by Emperor Jahangir for his beloved Nur Jahan, and the stunning Nishat Bagh (Garden of Bliss) with its 12 terraces descending to Dal Lake. Afternoon: Old City of Srinagar — Hazratbal Mosque, Jamia Masjid, Shah Hamdan Shrine and the famous Kani Shawl and papier-mâché craft shops. Overnight on houseboat.
Drive to Gulmarg (56 km, 1.5 hours) — at 2,650 meters, it is one of the world's premier ski destinations. In summer, it is a paradise of wildflower meadows with panoramic Himalayan views. Take the Gondola (cable car) ride — Phase 1 to Kongdori (3,099 m) and optionally Phase 2 to Apharwat Peak (4,200 m) for breathtaking views across to K2 and Nanga Parbat. Walk through the flower meadows. Return to Srinagar. Overnight on houseboat.
Drive to Pahalgam (96 km, 2.5 hours) through the saffron fields of Pampore and the ancient town of Anantnag. Pahalgam sits at the confluence of the Sheshnag and Lidder rivers, surrounded by pine forests and snow peaks. Visit Betaab Valley (named after a Bollywood film), walk through the Aru Valley meadows and explore Baisaran — called 'Mini Switzerland' for its rolling alpine pastures. Check into hotel. Overnight in Pahalgam.
Drive back towards Srinagar, then continue to Sonmarg (Gold Meadow) — at 2,800 meters. This dramatic high-altitude valley is the gateway to Ladakh. Trek or take ponies to the Thajiwas Glacier — a stunning blue-white glacier just 3 km from the base. The surrounding landscape of meadows, glacial streams and high peaks is of extraordinary beauty. Return to Srinagar. Overnight on houseboat.
Visit Shankaracharya Temple, perched on a hill 300 meters above Dal Lake, for panoramic views of the city and mountains. Explore the Lal Chowk market, the Craft Emporium and shop for Kashmir's world-famous products: saffron, dry fruits, Pashmina shawls, Kani weaves, walnut wood carvings and Kashmiri carpets. Evening final Shikara sunset ride. Farewell dinner at a traditional Kashmiri restaurant — savour the legendary Wazwan feast. Overnight on houseboat.
After a leisurely breakfast on your houseboat with the mountains reflected in the lake, transfer to Srinagar Airport for your onward journey. Kashmir will remain in your heart — its beauty is not just seen but felt, deeply and permanently.
